The Business Development and Leasing Team sought to create the right tenant mix of local entrepreneurs and national businesses. The combination brings together the best of all worlds.

The national chains have economic strength and stability, as well as big names that draw customers to the Plaza for groceries, coffee, bill-paying, and banking services. The foot traffic they bring benefits the emerging, locally-owned businesses that provide a fitness center, take-out food, and sit-down dining. It also benefits the community's micro-entrepreneurs whose products are featured at Where the World Meets.

Local businesses get a jump start from the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation in access to capital and business development assistance. A new loan product, patient-debt capital, was developed by this team for the purpose of helping local entrepreneurs. With this loan, entrepreneurs pay interest-only for the first two years, while their cash flow stream is developing. After that time, they will pay principle and interest for the next five years.

The businesses selected for the Plaza were chosen based on their ability to meets the expressed needs of the resident survey, as well as their commitment to the community and to local hiring.
